What is a patron saint?
Patron saints are Saints chosen as special protectors or guardians over areas of life. These areas can include occupations, illnesses, churches, countries, causes … anything that is important to someone.

Recently, the popes have named patron saints but patrons can be chosen by other individuals or groups. Patron saints are chosen because an interest, talent, or event in their lives overlaps with that or those who choose them. A patron saint can help us when we follow the example of thier life and when we ask for their intercessory prayers to God.

Choosing our Patron Saint
During our first year, we felt a strong calling to have a Patron Saint for the ministry but were uncertain of which Saint. Over several months of prayer, discernment and discussion it was finally decided upon. Since our ministry services young adults in different vocations (single, married, and religious) we decided that one Patron Saint would not suffice. We felt the need for Patron Saints that all could relate to in our different vocations.

At our one year anniversary, the Patron Saints were announced. WilCoYA Ministry chose Elizabeth Ann Seton, Pier Giorgio Frassati, and Pope John Paul II .
